NYPD Illegally Raids House of Man They Brutalized For Throwing Gay Pride Party, Days Before Court Date (Please Read & Reblog)

A gay Brooklyn man is being targeted and harassed by the NYPD after filing a lawsuit against the officers who raided his home without a warrant and beat him unconscious.

It was early Sunday morning and Jabbar Campbell was hosting a gay pride party when two officers appeared at his house responding to a noise complaint. The officers told the party goers, some who were dressed in drag, to keep it down and left soon after.

10 minutes later, another group of police officers appeared. This time they tried to gain access to the building and began banging on the door with their flashlights.

One officer reached for the building’s surveillance camera (bottom gif.) and turned it towards the wall, blocking the view.

I noticed them turning the security camera and I got scared,” Cambell said, according to the New York Post.

Campbell opened the door after a few moments only to be ‘bum-rushed’ by the cop. Two officers put Campbell in a shoulder lock while “5 to 7” cops beat him with their fists, flashlights and batons yelling “fag”, “homo” and “asshole” at him until he lost consciousness.

They said, ‘Stop resisting arrest.’ I said, ‘I am not resisting.’”

But the cops beat him up anyway, he said.

I blacked out. I was concerned for my life,” said Campbell.

The NYPD then arrested Jabbar and questioned the party goers who witnessed the beating, asking them if they were engaging in “gay orgies” and “screwing each other. They told the officers they weren’t and they also denied that Campbell was resisting.

Police charged Jabbar with resisting arrest and possession of drugs, allegations that Campbell insists are lies, which must be so because the police later dropped the drug charges after the reported on the story

The NYPD transported Campbell to Kings County Hospital where he received 9 stitches and was diagnosed with a concussion.

Since then, Campbell filed suit against police, but said more men armed wearing police jackets broke into his home without a warrant and their badges hidden from view just days before his court date. They harassed the guests who were at Jabbar’s house and wouldn’t give their names.

The men in blue allegedly asked if his security cameras were operational.

I don’t know what they’re looking for, or if they were going to plant something,” Campbell said.

Campbell’s attorney said what happened to his client was a violation of the Fourth Amendment – illegal search and seizure. The NYPD’s Internal Affairs is investigating.

Campbell said he plans to sue the police department and at least nine officers for severe personal injuries.

I was able to get an interview with Jabbar Campbell who admitted to me that he believes the raid was intended to scare and frame him :

Anarcho-Queer: Before your attack, the officers blocked the view of a surveillance camera in front of your building by turning it towards the wall. Taking this into regard, do you believe your attack was premeditated?

Jabbar Campbell: Absolutely, the cops turning the camera, which would have been the best witness if not tampered with, shows ill intent.

AQ: During the attack, the NYPD yelled homophobic slurs. In your opinion, was the raid was motivated by hate against queer people and/or people of color?

JC: I strongly believe they (Cops) were targeting homosexuals. They were trying to portray me as some sort of disorderly, arm-flailing, drug influenced crazy homosexual. I also believe that they (Cops) didn’t expect so much brains inside of a dark skinned man in that neighborhood.

AQ: How many officers were involved in your attack?

JC: About 5-7 cops were beating me, approximately 20+ officers reported to the scene.

AQ: What weapons did the officers use to brutalize you?

JC: Fists, billy clubs, flash lights and things of such nature.

AQ: What physical injuries were sustained?

JC: Multiple injuries to my head, face, neck and back just to name a few.

AQ: After you filed a lawsuit against the NYPD, three police officers raided your home without a warrant and illegally detained your guests. Was this to intimidate you? If so, what message do you think they trying to send?

JC: I definitely think this it was an intimidation tactic and also a plot to frame me just to cover up their crimes. I think the message was that they don’t want people standing up to them.

AQ: What happened during the second raid?

JC: They broke in my home, searched my home and search my friends and colleagues taking their IDs and writing their names down. They had their badges turned around and would [not] give their names.

AQ: Are the officers who brutalized you still on the job?

JC: Yes, however, they are being investigated by IAB (internal affairs bureau) and the ADA.

New York Post Belittles A Hate Crime By Calling It ‘Ketchup Attack’ by Amanda Chatel →

The fucking New York Post continues to be the bane of my existence. I hate saying that because I have friends who write for it, but I also know that these friends would never take a photo of a man who’s about to die on the tracks of the subway, then plaster it all over the front page of the paper. My friends have something called tact, and something even better called HEART.

So, after a woman who, based on the fact that she had anti-gay slurs hurled at her, is possibly gay, was smashed on the head at 440am this morning with a ketchup bottle by a cretin walking around in a human man’s costume, the Post decided “Ketchup Attack” was the best way to title the incident. It has a certain ring to it, and it’s probably going to get some decent traffic, as New Yorkers all over the city will be wondering what it means and if they, too, should be living in fear of such an attack… but seriously?

Although the woman suffered “head lacerations,” and will survive, doesn’t a hate crime warrant a different title? Doesn’t she, like all victims of crimes that stem from the hatred of someone based solely on their sexuality or race, deserve more?

The ketchup bottle wielding man, (see how I got all NY Post right there?), is still on the loose, and mostly likely, still harboring some shitty feelings about gay men and women. Sadly, this was in Greenwich Village just a couple blocks away from The Stonewall Inn where the Stonewall riots of 1969 took place when the gay community decided enough was enough and started their movement toward liberation. That was 44 years ago.

Just when you think the world has evolved, some asshole with a condiment bottle proves we still have so much further to go.

…This is the bit where a righteous expression of rage is supposed to go. I’d write one, but I’m honestly too sickened to say anything except “Fuck you” and “This is why we need to smash oppression”.

My father in law’s like… how did the kid know he was gay if he’s disabled? And I have no filter because I am in the middle of a nervous breakdown right now, and I flat out said to his face by that reasoning  I shouldn’t be married to your son because I’m “too disabled” to have sex. Being disabled does not preclude one from having a sexuality. I stopped myself right before “and you know what?? SOMETIMES I KISS GIRLS:” I want to throw things right now. Look, I know it’s not his fault. Society has created this culture in which we do not see disabled people as sexual beings but holy christ I do NOT have the filter or ability to deal with this while I am withdrawing from a very high dose of paxil.

Excuse me, ameriKa by I Was Born With Two Tongues

(My, my, my, my fellow Americans
you’re too militant, lighten up
you’re too angry, stop complaining
why are you complaining? lighten up
you’re too militant, lighten up.

If you don’t like this country, get out.
you’re too angry, stop complaining
why are you complaining? leave
go back to where you came from
you didn’t come here on the Mayflower, go home
this is not your home

Stop getting so angry
stop hating America, there’s no racism against your kind
stop being so angry, lighten up
can’t you see you’re too angry
stop complaining
stop hating America)

Excuse me, ameriKa
I’m confused
you tell me to lighten up
but what you really mean is whiten up
you wish to wash me out
melt me in your cauldron
Excuse me if I tip your melting pot
spill the shades onto your streets
I don’t want to lose my color

You wonder why I get so angry
and don’t trust me when I claim it’s your fault

Excuse me, ameriKa
you pushed for my paper permits
shipped us as cargo from suburban missionaries
from a land fighting for your greed
a country in distress armed by your kindness
rampaged and pillaged and suddenly my skin stretches on silver screens
the killing fields were your Hollywood hype

Excuse me, ameriKa
I have tried to make this my home
but you never wanted me here
nine digits to divvy up my newfound freedom
a hyphenated identity
misconstructed name
divided soul
Asian-American-Hybrid-Woman
Slashed-dashed-capped-and-lower-cased in labels
contaminated by diction
pricked by vultures of bastard tongues

You mispronounce my pain
the sting heard on roll call days
daily friction
names slip off teacher’s tongues sounding like
slaughtered soldiers caught in battlefields
excuse me for getting so angry
but you can’t even say my fucking name

Still you shuffle my anger aside
want me to bite my lips and watch my words
yet you cut me with your thoughts
your stories frame me in fiction
recreated for ideal themes
squeeze my mind for the minor myth that molds me
into your major model
gave me seductive sex appeal to steal your virgin soldiers
drew me dragon claws to kill your unlucky sons
excuse me if I get too angry
you spread lies meant to spread my legs

Excuse me if I have learned to master your language
sharpen my tongue, own my own words, and call them anger

Excuse me if I get angry
watching my parents wither and work through cycles
while you steamroll over their dreams as they drown in blood and sweat
for fifteen minute breaks of overtime meals
the factory whistle blows and all the stink
that stains my father’s blue collared shirt
steel toed shoes cover calloused feet that step
proud to be the backbone of this ameriKa
for jobs real Americans never wanted

My father’s skin sweats stories
my mother’s hands hold up hope
I’m angry for their sacrifice
I’m angry for their pain
I am angry for the lost stories and forgotten faces
drowning in this land of immigrant pool
I’m angry for the violence that bleeds onto your streets

Excuse YOU, AmeriKKKa, while I scratch your name with three K’s
Mark X next to xenophobic tendencies
Scrape violence off your skull and ask you WHY?!!?!
WHY ARE YOU SO ANGRY, AMERICA?
You whip out wisecracks and attack the defenseless
Flashing the superior color of your badge
You beat us down, blame us as victims, remain nameless
Bashing the heads of all our Vincent Chins
You serve violence, a beating for culture’s sake
You take grants for forgotten faces
Steal lives for petty skin crimes
Bury our dead with bullet wounds
Slay the living with foreign stares

WHY DON’T YOU STOP HATING ME

WHY DON’T YOU STOP KILLING ME?!!?

The New York Times reports that Jordan Davis has no criminal record and comes from “a stable environment at home”. Like he is the suspect or something. Meanwhile they say nothing about Michael Dunn’s criminal record or the home environment he came from. Like there is nothing odd or sick about a man who picks deadly fights over loud music at gas stations. Or who values human life so cheaply
Jordan Davis | Abagond

Jordan Davis was 17 years old. He was shot and killed by a man at a gas station because the man started yelling at Jordan and his friends for playing their music too loud, and then he claims he saw a gun in the car, so he fired 8 shots at them, killing Davis. There was no gun found in the car, and as news reports have been quick to note, neither Davis nor any of the boys in the car are gang members - because if they were, it’d be totally justified if a middle-aged white man killed them?

Argument over loud music led to fatal shooting of teenNovember 27, 2012
A Brevard County man was in jail Monday, accused of shooting a teenager dead in an argument over loud music.
Michael David Dunn, 45, and his girlfriend were in Jacksonville Friday for Dunn’s son’s wedding when they stopped at a convenience store, Jacksonville sheriff’s Lt. Rob Schoonover said.
Jordan Russell Davis, 17, and several other teenagers were sitting in a sport utility vehicle in the parking lot when Dunn pulled up next to them in a car and asked them to turn down their music, Schoonover said.
Jordan and Dunn exchanged words, and Dunn pulled a gun and shot eight or nine times, striking Jordan twice, Schoonover said. Jordan was sitting in the back seat. No one else was hurt.
Dunn’s attorney Monday said her client acted responsibly and in self-defense. She did not elaborate.
Dunn’s girlfriend and the driver of Jordan’s vehicle were in Gate Food Post, 8251 Southside Blvd., when the shooting happened. Dunn and his girlfriend took off afterward, and witnesses jotted down their tag number, deputies said.
They were staying in a Jacksonville hotel when they heard a news report Saturday morning indicating someone had died in the shooting, deputies said. They then returned to Brevard.
Dunn, a gun collector, was arrested Saturday at his home in Satellite Beach on charges of murder and attempted murder. He was being held without bail.
Jordan, who was a student at Samuel W. Wolfson High School, a magnet school in Duval County, will be buried in his hometown of Marietta, Ga. He is survived by his parents and a brother. Jordan worked at Winn-Dixie, according to his Facebook page.

This is absolutely heartbreaking. Dunn will likely use Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law as defense even though he fired at least eight times into a vehicle with four unarmed teenagers.

Another case of a black child going to the convenience store and never coming home…

Attempted ‘lynching’ no joke say parents of Black boys in Arkansas school incident →

fantasygeeki:

glitterlion:

FinalCall.com) - Two students were expelled and seven suspended from Wynne High School in Wynne, Ark., but parents of two Black boys, who were victims in what parents call an attempted lynching, are furious, saying justice has not been done and their fear for the safety of their children.

Cheryl Webster said all sorts of things went through her mind but she hadn’t imagined what she was told. Some boys tried to hang Mickey, her child, and his teammate, MaKye McDaniel, with a noose during football practice.

She is furious because of the assault, incensed that school officials waited three days to notify her, and outraged because they illegally questioned Mickey without her presence or knowledge, she told The Final Call. Oddly, before she even knew what was happening, the principal and assistant principal were profusely apologizing, she recalled.

“This is worse than what I even thought it could be. What if my child would have been hung? The first thing they would have said was my son committed suicide. What kind of sh—-t, I mean, stuff is that,” Ms. Webster said, restraining herself from cursing and struggling to speak through pain and anger.

She recounted her 14-year-old son’s ordeal: On Sept. 24, another student called him to the back of the weight room. One boy lifted him up while another tried to put a noose across his head and he had to fight them off, she said. “I don’t care if you’re White or Black. What happened to my son should never have happened,” Ms. Webster declared.

“I never thought this would happen, especially not to my son because he’s a good kid, a good student. I’ve never had these fears before but I’m always going to be concerned because you never know, it might happen again. There’s not a day that goes by I don’t think about my son being in school,” she added.

During an Oct. 3 school board meeting, Superintendent Carl Easley read a statement from the suspended boys’ families, according to TV station WPTY in Memphis. “They apologize for the embarrassment to the school district. They apologize for any embarrassment and heartache they have caused the students,” he said, in an article published on the WPTY television’s website. According to Fox affiliate in Memphis, school officials labeled the incident a case of “extreme bullying.”

Final Call phone requests for interviews with Mr. Easley and the Wynne Public School Board were not been returned. Supt. Easley did say the high school’s administration thoroughly investigated the incident and found no criminal conduct, according to news reports. Wynne, Ark., is about an hour away from Memphis.

“I don’t care what they say. You can talk it around and spin it around all you want. I do not consider that horseplay. It wasn’t a joke to me. It wasn’t a joke to my family. It wasn’t a joke to the community either. That’s my child’s life,” Ms. Webster told The Final Call.

She wants the White players involved dismissed for the rest of the academic year. And, Ms. Webster declares, if the situation were reversed, her Black son would have been put in jail. She and Mickey’s father are discussing next steps but, for now, they are taking great care to protect their son.

“I can only imagine what goes through his head walking down that hallway at school, with people asking, ‘Was that you, Mickey? Was that true?’ He just wants to be left alone,” Ms. Webster said.

Rod McDaniel and his wife want to file criminal charges, but they don’t trust local police. Mr. McDaniel also wonders if his history of outspokenness on racial issues led to the targeting of his son, MaKye. He had complained publicly about an incident with White police officers the previous week.

“We want number one accountability and full maximum penalty for hate crimes and being involved in any crime, expulsions for the assaults, resignations of both coaches, and we want two Black coaches to be put in the head and assistant coaches places,” he said.

According to Mr. McDaniel, his son said he and Mickey were in the field house weight room for football practice. Some White guys began saying “they were going to lynch and hang all n——s,” Mr. McDaniel solemnly recounted. The White students took shoelaces, made nooses, and then hung the shoelaces around the jerseys of Black players, he continued. They then took pants and bladder bags used for injuries, shoes, made a complete dummy, and hung the dummy, Mr. McDaniel said.

Then students took a rope tied into a noose and placed it around Mickey’s head but couldn’t tighten it, Mr. McDaniel said. When his son McKay, 14, jumped up and helped to fight the other boys off, two boys grabbed MaKye, took the rope off of Mickey’s neck and tried to place it around his, said the boy’s father.

MaKye was able to fight them off, Mr. McDaniel said.

“The first thing I thought was the safety of my children. My second reaction was I’m angry, very upset at the coaches and the school because they failed to protect my child,” Mr. McDaniel added.

According to Mr. McDaniel, no one from the school has reached out to his family except to say students were suspended. But even that response followed an e-mail from his wife asking what happened to their son, Mr. McDaniel explained.

Everyone involved in the incident is back at school and on the football team, except one boy, according to Mr. McDaniel. He suspects what he sees as lenient discipline may have happened because one boy involved is the son of a coach and another is the son of a school board member. “All of the boys’ parents are either affiliated with the school or local government,” he charged.

Calls to school officials were not returned to confirm or deny the allegation.

Mr. McDaniel is concerned for his son’s safety and the safety of the other Black students as they travel for remaining football games. He said he has no indication steps have been taken by the school or football team to make sure Black players are safe.

Wynne and its surrounding areas are saturated with members of the Ku Klux Klan, said Mr. McDaniel. He is fearful of how Black players could be treated during road trips and games.

“We’ve had the Klan march in our city twice. I’ve experienced it both times. I grew up fighting physical racial fights all my life so I’m no stranger to this type of hostile racial environment,” Mr. McDaniel said.

The incident has affected his family, Mr. McDaniel added. He suffers from anxiety and his wife is afraid to leave the house or work the family business, a sports bar and grill, he said.

“My concern is how will they treat these Black kids on and off the field? My son has to look over his shoulder. Will there be foul play on the field?” he asked.

Rage. Just…rage.
